The History of Hotel Airport Parking
Staying at an hotel before your outward journey was previously
dominated by businessman and the first class schedule passenger.
For years the cost was prohibited. Although hotels which are busiest
in the week found themselves with spare capacity at the week end
and wanted to tap into this year round market.
The problem for the hotels was that holidaymakers only stayed one
night but their cars might stay for 2 weeks. Their car parks would
quickly fill leaving no space for their other customers.
The challenge was to overcome the cost differential, car park capacity
and who would organise and collect payment. Having been a car park
owner many hotels approached me but the sticking point was always
the above.
Eventually after much trial and error the car park operators have
more or less assumed control of the Hotel airport parking market,
for the following reasons.
1) Customers would leave their car at the operators car park and
be taken to the hotel who would transfer to the airport and then
be picked up by the car park operator upon their return.
2) Conversely the customer would first go to the hotel and then
travel to the car park the following morning.
3) The car park operators slice of the charge was usually the highest.
By both sides reducing their charges the price between hotel airport
parking and parking has narrowed considerably and many customers
are quite happy to pay the difference to reduce the stress of travelling
on the day of departure and start their holiday off nice and relaxed.
